Our Mission Statement
To provide an environment that promotes the independence of senior citizens in West Covina by offering a variety of direct services and programs to their specialized and changing needs and interests.
The Cortez Community and Senior Center offers services to seniors within the West Covina community. Services provided include but are not limited to senior recreation, social services, housing, legal, financial assistance, health education, aid for the disabled, and nutrition programs. Counseling and support services for seniors can also be found at the facility. Transportation resources are available to help bring seniors to the Senior Center. Staff also provides opportunities for trips, excursions, and special classes

Senior Congregate Meal Program
Enjoy our award-winning lunch program with your friends. Meal tickets are given on a first-come-first-served basis at 8:45 am to the first 175 participants. All seniors attending the meal program for the first time must complete an intake form. A suggested $3 donation for seniors 60+ years is encouraged, but a payment of $5 for all non-Seniors is needed. The Congregate Meal program is held Monday - Thursday, with lunch promptly served at 11 am. Lunch check-in is no later than 10:45 am *Replacement meal cards will result in a $2 fee. * This program is supported by Federal funding through the Los Angeles County Department of Aging and Disabilities and is administered by the City of West Covina. Program is partially funded by the community Development Block Grant.

Cortez Park Community & Senior Center Activities
In addition to an exceptional lunch program, the Senior Center provides a variety of recreational activities and trips. Sports programming, support groups, volunteer opportunities, and many other programs for seniors.
- Senior Social Services: The Senior Center has social programs to assist seniors in various areas, including help in finding home care; transportation; case management, assistance with Social Security and Medicare forms/questions, support groups, etc.
- Volunteering: The Senior Center needs volunteers to work with the Nutrition Program, Special Events, and more. Pick up a volunteer application at the front counter or call 626-331-5366 for more information.
- Friday Movies: Each Friday, at 9:15 am, seniors are welcome to come and enjoy a movie at the Senior Center, free of charge. *Dates vary, review a full schedule on The Voice*
- Excursions: Monthly excursions to a variety of Cultural and popular destinations.
- Senior Men's Softball League: Men fifty-five and older are welcome to participate in a slow-pitch softball game held at 9 am each Friday morning at Cameron Park. This is not a league team, and there are no fees involved, just a group of seniors playing a game for fun and exercise. So, bring your mitt and come on out.
- Recreation Classes: The Senior Center also provides a wide range of recreation classes, including Flex Fitness, Line dancing, Computer classes, Driver safety, Tai Chi, Yoga, etc. To learn more, please read the most recent publication of the Voice (listed above). The Senior Center is also looking for instructors to provide other classes of interest. Please get in touch with the senior center at 626-331-5366 for more information.
- Workshops: The Senior Center provides a wide range of FREE workshops, including Medicare, Real Estate, Life Planning, Nutrition, and more! To see the current workshops please read the most recent publication of The Voice (listed above). The Senior Center is also looking for organizations to provide workshops of interest. Senior Citizens' Assistance Program - (S.C.A.P.)

Social Services
Services are offered free of charge in a wide variety of areas including help in finding home care/home chore workers, transportation, services to help those who would like help in maintaining independence in their homes, including case management, assistance with Social Security, and Medicare forms/questions, volunteer opportunities, and support groups.
Case Management Provided by YWCA Internal Senior Services (Partially funded through CDBG): Initial in-home assessment and ongoing coordination of services are developed to meet the individual needs of the indigent and home-bound in the City of West Covina.

- Legal Assurance Program: Designed to inform and assist seniors understanding their legal concerns while alleviating anxiety caused by common misunderstandings or misinformation. Offered by attorneys at no cost to seniors.
- Tax Aide Assistance: AARP volunteers are available to seniors to help answer any tax questions (from February to April).
- Alzheimer Caregivers Support Group:
- The Alzheimer's Association is the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. 24/7 HELPLINE: 800-272-3900.

- CAPS Alzheimer's Day Services: CAPS Alzheimer's Day Services is an adult day care program specializing in care for older adults with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. CAPS provides a safe and friendly environment in which persons experiencing memory loss and confusion can socialize with others and participate in enjoyable activities such as music, crafts, and exercise. CAPS also focuses on helping family members and caregivers by providing support groups, free educational seminars, consultation, and a rest from the difficult task of caregiving.
- Eye-Das: A daytime support group for the sight impaired on the first Thursday of every month, from 11 am - 1 pm. It is open to anyone - wearing glasses to total blindness. The group will also offer an opportunity for socialization, education, sharing of similar problems, and the seeking of solutions. Please tell those who cannot read this about the group. Senior Center Sponsorship
The success of our programs and events depends largely on our sponsors, who lend their names and financial support. The money we raise directly assists our efforts in providing quality programs and benefits the seniors at the Cortez Park Community and Senior Center. If you are interested in sponsoring an event or program, please fill out the 2025 Senior Center Sponsorship form and email it to Vanessa Ibanez, Recreation Services Supervisor.
